With the new Police Station becoming a reality, we hope to be holding more Firearms Safety Courses on a frequent basis throughout the year. These classes will be open to the public, with preference given to Freetown residents, and provide instruction in the safe operation of firearms, Massachusetts firearms law and other topics that exceed the minimum requirements needed to obtained a Massachusetts Firearms Identification (FID) Card and License to Carry Firearms (LTC).

Freetown is quickly developing from the once rural farm landscape to a busy suburban community. Described by officers as "a small town with city problems," the police department staffing levels and budget have been updated to reflect the rapid growth. In December 2018, at a special town meeting, Freetown residents voted to approve funding for the construction of a new police station. Being built with the future in mind, the new station will be an update from the current, and decrepit, facility and capable of being updated for expansion for the next 50 years.

Police Officers carry a plethora of equipment, from handcuffs, pepper spray, baton, medical kits and firearms. The most important of all the items, however, is the radio. The police radio is the main lifeline between a police officer on the street and the Freetown Communications department located at the police station. As important as this is, the current Public Safety Radio Infrastructure has been allowed to fall into a state of decay that requires serious overhaul.
